NEW LIFE OF NEW YORK CITY
NEW LIFE OF NEW YORK CITY
A SAFE PLACE FOR KIDS
In 1960, Robert (Bo) Nixon met an enthusiastic Young Life leader named Bill Milliken. When the two met, Bo was the leader of one of the largest street gangs in Downtown Manhattan. As Bill labored diligently to share with Bo and his gang members the power of God’s love, his consistency and commitment paid off. Bo’s life was transformed and his leadership abilities turned from destructive mayhem to compassionate, meaningful intervention in the lives of at-risk youth.
After working with Bill to reach other at risk youth Bo’s awareness of the importance of the work and the great needs of the community grew. In 1973, New Life of New York City, Inc. emerged under the direction of Bo (Robert Nixon) and his wife Mary. New Life was birthed to ensure practical and faith based outreach to hurting and alienated young people.
Today, thirty five years later, the staff of New Life continues to impact the lives of at risk young people. Using the same principles that changed the life of Bo and his friends New Life engages at-risk teenagers and empowers them to resist the negative influences in their environment. Through relationships, meaningful programs and the unfailing power of Gods love, New life helps young people make choices that will enable them to become mature and productive individuals.
New Life’s commitment is invaluable not only to at risk youth, but also to you. New Life allows everyone to participate in making a difference in the lives of young people. You too can make a difference, and be a part of changing lives. Here’s how...
