NEW LIFE OF NEW YORK CITY

A SAFE PLACE FOR KIDS

Without the presence of active artists, communities lack vision, inspiration, hope and opportunities for empowerment.  It is through art that passion of life, clarification and transference of values, modes of education, refinement of culture and cohesiveness of community are nurtured.

The New Life Young Artist Program develops the artistic talents of gifted young artists. Every year New Life presents an annual art fair where student pieces are displayed for the community and judged professionally. Awards are given to participants and some are sold to viewers.

A picture can also be the essence of hope and empowerment for millions.  Unfortunately, many persons with artistic abilities, including the youth in Brooklyn’s most depressed communities, are not recognized or encouraged as artists and do not get or foresee any tangible rewards for their gifts or talents.  As a result, they have little knowledge and enthusiasm to pursue art career.

New Life’s Young Artist Program, directed by Kaaria Mucherera, Project Director at New Life’s Brooklyn Site, provides encouragement, education and access to pursuing a career as an artist.  Support the art program
