Since 1973 New Life of New York City, a faith based youth outreach organization, has been offering teenagers positive choices in disadvantaged neighborhoods where they might easily fall prey to the negative influences of urban life. As a result, thousands of young people have had a positive impact upon, and made contributions to, a society to which they might otherwise have become a burden.

New Life has learned over the years that for teenagers growing up in the inner city there is great risk. There are far too many who have no direction, too much empty time, no view of the future, a lack of direction. They are looking for something and are open to adults who will listen to them, care for them, laugh and cry with them and believe in them. The New Life staff is doing that . . . giving young people attention, support, understanding and help and most importantly bringing them a message of hope.

In the past year New Life has reached 1,110 young people in their neighborhoods – in the park, at the New Life Centers, on the basketball court or at one of our outreach meetings. Whatever the setting, we introduce youth to alternative choices from what is modeled on the streets. In most situations, we are the only people they will meet, who through personal relationships, will provide counsel, support, positive role models and meaningful programs that will give them alternatives to involvement in drugs, gangs, crime, violence and anti-social behavior.  New Life provides them a safe place where they can belong.
